John Riley (Big John) Scott, 64, of Diboll, was born March 2, 1947 in Nacogdoches, Texas, the son of the late Mavis (Deshazo) and Roy Scott. He passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his residence. John was employed by Temple-Inland in the fiberboard department for more than 42 years. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was a member of Burke Baptist Church.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Patsie Scott of Diboll; nieces and nephews, Dustin and Marsha Hassain of Diboll and William Baude I and Amanda Smith of Huntington; special great nieces and nephews, Alexa Baude, Will Baude II, Gage Hassain, Lauren Smith, Dylan Smith and Elyssa Baude; and special great-grand niece, Londyn Bailey; Kathy Church and Brenda Stockman, cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Vera Scott and Velma Scott.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Temple-Inland's Fiberboard Plant.
Services for John will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul Mettlen officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Eden Cemetery in Nacogdoches County. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com. Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
