Ralph D Oliver Adopted son M 15 Iowa
Ralph Dean Oliver's parents were Charles Sydney Oliver and Emma Louisa Reece. He had at least nine siblings, including a twin brother named Alfred Steven Oliver. Ralph Oliver, 15, was living with his biological family for the census on 2 June 1900 in Lee Township, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. However, there is also a Ralph D. Oliver, 15, listed as "adopted son" living with Carlos and Hancey Case on 7 June 1900 in Des Moines Township, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. It would seem to be the same Ralph, though why they claimed him as an adopted son is a mystery. There is no other known connection to the Case family. When Ralph Dean Oliver married Anna Elizabeth Fahey on 5 Dec 1923 in San Francisco, California, he gave the names of his biological parents on the Marriage License.
It is normal to include adopted children in a family tree with a note that they were adopted. If the biological parents are known, they can be put into the tree also. Thus a person may have two sets of parents.
There are several people in my family tree who are adopted, including my grandmother, but never have I seen any official documents of adoption. I would not even know where to look. Since you knew Ralph Dean Oliver personally, it is clear that he was not actually adopted by the Case family despite what they said in the 1900 census. I shall delete him and his descendants from my most recent tree, WilsonGreer2021Mar27, and from my database.
