Today marks the end of the first week of my life without you. It has, without a doubt, been the hardest week of my life thus far. In the midst of all the commotion, turmoil and emotional roller coaster, I have been awash in retrospection. This retrospection has been of you, me and the relationship we had as father and son. “Unconditional” really says it better than any word I can come up with. It is a word that encompasses the value system of a Christian. God’s love for man is unconditional. That doesn’t preclude justice and judgement for those who don’t repent and believe on Christ, but God’s love for his creation has no qualification. You lived that trait and that is the reason that I have come to understand this aspect of God’s love for me. What better legacy can a man leave his son.

Today, I face a future without you with me. We all will miss your sweet smile, your little wink, your continuously cheerful greetings and your bone jarring pats on the back. But, most of all, we will cherish the intimacy with which we wove our lives together I just want to proclaim to all that I am the son of a champion. You are a champion not for winning earthly contests, but winning the race that God set out for you with honor, dignity and ethical ideals that few can claim. You have finished that race now and can claim your prize of eternal life. Our lives are far richer because of your complete selflessness. I am very grateful, proud and honored to be your son.
