California Rites Held For Former Eakly Resident
Services for J.G. Gates, 78, former farmer in the Eakly community, who died recently in Chowchilla, Calif., were held in the Worden chapel in that city. Burial was in the Chowchilla District cemetery.
James Franklin Gates was born at Grapevine, Ark., in 1882. He was married to Miss Maude Greenhaw in 1902. They came to Oklahoma in the late twenties and lived one mile south of Eakly a number of years. They also lived in the Cordell community for some time, and moved to California in 1937, where they had lived since.
Surviving are his wife, Maude, of the home address, and four daughters, Mrs. Nina Ray of Chowchilla, Mrs. Nellie Blackburn and Mrs. Geneva Reynolds, both of Madera, Calif., and Mrs. Vera Miskulin of Los Angeles; four sons, Carl of Madera, Leon, of Fresno, Calif., Elmer, of Turlock, and Bill of Texas; 29 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie of Oklahoma City and Noah of Arizona; four sisters, Kate Veazey, Donna Butler and Aoa Myers, all of Oklahoma and Myrtle Greenhaw of Modesto.
