Gertie and PJ were married 5 Jun 1912 in Erath County, Texas. 
As Gertie and her girlfriend were walking home from school one day, they passed the cafe were PJ was working as a cook. He was taking a break outside and whistling, as he was well known for thoughout the area. Gertie's friend said "I'm going to marry that man." Needless to say, that isn't the way it worked out.
