Individual Details
Mary Elizabeth Bedford
(5 Aug 1925 - 31 Aug 2013)
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Mattill; her parents, Edward Monroe Bedford, Sr. and Belle Maxwell Bedford; her brothers, Edward Bedford and Jack Bedford; and sister, Audrey Bedford.
She leaves behind her loyal caregivers, Jeff and Carole Campbell, and special friends, Mary Nell Floyd, Fern Mullenix and her “angel”, Sandra Fife Johnson. After the death of her husband these friends' visits and friendship meant the world to her.
Mrs. Mattill was born and raised in the Flatwoods Community of Gordo, Alabama. She graduated from Gordo High School and later earned degrees from The University of Montevallo and The University of Alabama. She taught school for a short time in Gordo and then became a librarian at Berry College in Rome, Georgia before retiring and returning home to Flatwoods. Mr. and Mrs. Mattill loved reading, the outdoors and all of nature. Mrs. Mattill was an avid walker up until her illness. It was not unusual for the neighbors in Flatwoods to see her walking up and down the road several times a day, no matter what the season. She was, also, the neighborhood watch, knowing when everyone was leaving or coming home and what was going on in the community. She will be missed by her Flatwoods' neighbors.
Her caretakers would like to express thanks to Merrill Gardens, Heritage Health Care, and her friends whose visits brightened her day.
Mary and her husband were authors of "A Classified Bibliography of Literature on the Acts of the Apostles," 1966
