J. W. McGee Dies of Cancer
John Wesley McGee, farmer of Echola Community and merchant, died in Doctors' Hospital in Bessemer this morning. He was 47.
Mr. McGee had been ill several months, suffering from cancer. He had undergone treatment in a New York Hospital recently but had been at home for several weeks.
Funeral services will be held from the Dunn's Creek Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. John Springer and the Rev. J. T. Swann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Jones and Spigener directing.
Mr. McGee was born and grew up in the Echola Community and was operating a farm there at the time of his death. He operated a store in the Kirk Community in Pickens County at one time and another in Holman. Just prior to his death he owned a restaurant in Mississippi.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Marie Noland McGee; two sons, John Wylie and Larry Glenn McGee; three daughters, Eleanor Jane, Jo Anne, and Shelby Jean McGee; and his mother, Mrs. Etta McGee Carver, all of Echola; and a half sister Mrs. Mary Hardy of Gordo.
Pallbearers will be members of the Gordo Masonic Lodge.
