GORDO, Ala. - Rebecca Moss Powell, 75, died July 31, 2003, at Druid City Hospital Regional Medical Center. Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gordo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Gordo City Cemetery. was born March 1, 1928, in Pickens County, Ala., to Clarence Neil and Flossie Rebecca Pate Moss. She was a retired secretary for Gordo Elementary and Gordo High School for 18 years. She was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel S. Powell, and sister, Joy Moss Shoultz.

Survivors include her son, Samuel Keith Powell of Northport, Ala.; brother, Billy Gerald Moss of Samantha, Ala.; sister, Sue Moss Flowers of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers are Malcolm Comerford, Mark Comerford, Joe Mullenix, Frank Mullenix, Joe Powell, Scott Guy, Jason Mullenix and Randolph Trull. Memorials may be made to Gordo First Baptist Church.

GORDO | Rebecca Moss Powell, age 75, of 471 4th Avenue NW, died July 31, 2003, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Gordo First Baptist Church. Rev. Pat Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel S. Powell, sister, Joy Moss Shoultz and her parents.
Survivors include son, Samuel Keith Powell, Northport; sister, Sue Moss Flowers (Claude Jr.), Tuscaloosa; brother, Billy Gerald Moss, Samantha; brothers-in-law, Gene Powell (Christine), Gordo; Joe Powell (Jean), Aliceville; sisters-in-law, Bernice Comerford, Reform; Sabra Nelson (Mac), Tuscaloosa; and Mary Parham (Max), Marietta, Ga.; mother-in-law, Ottice Powell, Gordo; grandchildren, Jennifer Brooke Todd (Jay) and Samuel Jordan Powell, one great grandchild, Brayden Todd, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Powell was born March 1, 1928 in Pickens County to the late Clarence Neil Moss and Flossie Rebecca Pate Moss. In earlier years she was Clerk of the Town of Gordo and then secretary of Gordo Elementary School and Gordo High School for 18 years. She was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church and a life long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Malcolm Comerford, Mark Comerford, Joe Mullenix, Frank Elmore, Joe Powell, Scott Guy, Jason Mullenix and Randolph Trull.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Gordo First Baptist Church, Fidelis Sunday School Class, Lela Faye Group Circle, retired teachers and staff at Gordo Elementary and High School, Pickens County Board of Education, Dr. John Brandon, nurses and staff at DCH, Forest Manor Nursing Home, Able Hands Nursing Care and Morning Pointe Assisted Living.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Gordo First Baptist Church.
