Ralph Heath Marble

Ralph Heath Marble, 83, died Wednesday morning March 26, 2008, at Baptist 
Hospital in Jackson. Services will be on Saturday, March 29, 2008, in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Jackson at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street and 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. 
Ralph was born January 31, 1925 in Leland, MS, the son of Frisby Griffing and Lucy Turner Marble. A graduate of Leland High School, he continued his education at the University of Mississippi after serving his country during World War II in the United States 1st Marine Division. As a Marine he participated in the invasion of the island of Okinawa in 1945 where he lost many of his comrades in battle. During the Korean War, he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. 
He was one of four men who began Institutional Food Distributors, Inc. in Jackson in 1968. The company provided goods and services for the food industry in eight states during the years of operation. Mr. Marble served as Executive Vice-President and Chairman of the Board of Directors during his years with the company. He was also employed by South Central Bell where he worked as Treasury Cashier and retired in 1981 after 30 years of service. 
Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. He became a Life Deacon and was a member of Explorer Sunday School Class. He also served as Chairman of the Sound Committee at the Church for over twenty years and enjoyed serving the Church Choir during many presentations of the Carols By Candlellight services. As an active member of Kiwanis International beginning in 1955, he served a term as Lt. Governor and enjoyed his many years of fellowship with other members of the club. 
He is survived by his wife, Ann Hasson Marble, his children, Ed Marble and Janet Marble of San Francisco; Lydia Dell and Larry Marble of Jackson; grandchildren, Destin R. Dell and Tyler J. Dell of Jackson; Jordan Marble of San Francisco. He is also survived by his brother Roland D. Marble of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his brothers Frank G. Marble and Walter S. Marble. 
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who will be missed by all who knew him.
