OLSBURG [Kansas] - Charles S. Gibson, 86, Olsburg, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at a Manhattan hospital.
Mr. Gibson had been a researcher with Lockheed Aircraft until retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born April 9, 1916, in Humboldt, the son of Ves and Gaynell Goss Gibson.
Mr. Gibson was a member of the Olsburg Lutheran Church and past commander of Post No. 284 of the American Legion in Olsburg.
He married Ardeva Webster on Nov. 3, 1940, in Los Angeles. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Bob Gibson, Merced, Calif., and Chuck Gibson, San Juan Island, Wash.; five daughters, Carol Sue Gibson, Alhambra, Calif., Sharon Pike, Sun Valley, Calif., Barbara Shows, La Crescenta, Calif., Kathy Pierson, San Jose, Calif., and Tamara Barber, Allen Park, Mich.; three sisters, Ina Mae Hamilton, Palmdale, Calif., Frances Ivory, Reseda, Calif., and Eleanor Rutter, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by a son, William Gibson, in 1942, and a daughter, Mary Gibson, in 1956.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Olsburg Lutheran Church. Burial with military honors will be in Mariadahl Cemetery in Olsburg. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Olsburg Post No. 284 of the American Legion or the Olsburg Lutheran Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
