Company D, 9th Michigan Infantry in Jackson, on 6 September 1864 as a Private.
Arriving in Chattanooga, Hilton remained with the regiment from it's occupation in Chattanooga and went with it to Nashville, TN. where he was mustered out on 15 September 1865.
