Marion Everett Fast
(30 Aug 1932 - 21 May 2011)
Pastor Marion Everett Fast, devout servant of God and faithful husband and father, died on Saturday morning, May 21, 2011, in his Longmont, Colorado home. He was 78.
He was born on August 30, 1932, in Jonesville, Michigan to Raymond and Alta (Faust) Fast. The youngest of six children, Marion was reared on the family’s dairy farm and graduated from high school in Homer, Michigan. He later received both his B.S. and M.A. degrees from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. On June 2, 1954, he married his lovely bride of fifty-seven years, Sara Rabun of Thomson, Georgia.
As a young man, Marion served as an assistant pastor in Wheaton, Illinois before accepting his first pastorate in 1956 at the Bible Baptist Church in New Buffalo, Michigan. Always an energetic and steadfast leader, Pastor Fast remained at BBC for twenty-two years before he accepted a call to Faith Baptist Church in Longmont, Colorado. He was the pastor at FBC from 1978 until his retirement in 1997.
During most of his years in Christian service, Pastor Fast delighted in serving on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Bob Jones University. While in Michigan, Marion worked tirelessly, building relationships within the community and ultimately, ministries at the church. He was a gregarious speaker/story-teller, a favored school bus driver, and an avid hunter. While in Colorado, he served in a leadership capacity for the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship Int’l. His hobbies turned to woodworking and, in his retirement years, he spent many hours in his new shop, crafting custom toys for his neighbors and grandchildren. He was also pleased to have opportunity to contribute to the advertising efforts of Habitat for Humanity, Longmont.
Surviving are Marion’s wife, Sara (Rabun) Fast and five daughters: Rebecca (Bill) Conway of New Buffalo, Michigan; Sharon (David) Gustafson of Arlington, Virginia; Marty (Fred) Smith and Linda (Glen Snider) Fast, both of Longmont, Colorado; and Joanna (Darrell) Conn of Pittstown, New Jersey. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren: Elizabeth and Katherine Conway; Adam, Story, Ansel, Susan, Gray, Garrett, Sally, Sonnet and Sigrid Gustafson; Melinda, Michaela, Melody, Brandon and Breeze Smith; Lydia and Riley Hoffmann; Dylan and Tyson Snider; and Madeline, Meredith, Nicholas, and Copper Conn. Four great-grandchildren and one brother, Vernon (Glenna) Fast of Marshall, Michigan also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Dale, and Ivan Fast; one sister, Eunice Fast Poling; and an infant daughter, Susan.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. and will be held at the Faith Baptist Church, Longmont. Visitation will be held at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m.
