Charles E. “Chuck�?Burdette
He longed to be healed here on earth, God had other plans. In the early morning of April 26, 2017, with loved ones by his side, Charlie entered heaven.
Charlie was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 13, 1947 to Edward and Leliah (Maxwell) Burdette. He leaves behind four sons; Conner, Chris, Taylor and Tyler; his sister and best friend Jan Hess (Harold); a niece Robin Sebalj Carlen (Craig); four grandchildren Bryton, Elizabeth, Emma, and Noah; a list of dear friends that were like family to him. While we mourn Charlie’s passing, there is peace in knowing he has been made whole again with healthy lungs and a renewed body.
After high school graduation in 1965, Charlie served in Guam with the US Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Vietnam War. Like many veterans coming back from war, he found it difficult to find his place in society until he began working as a finish carpenter for Cole Construction in Coldwater. Charlie then worked in sales for H & S Supply in Coldwater, but his true career passion came when he became a paramedic for LifeCare, working for 24 years. He was known by many as the “Silver Fox.�?He worked in Battle Creek, Gull Lake, and St. Joseph and was instrumental in helping LifeCare successfully expand into Branch County. Chuck most recently worked in the Tire Center at Wal Mart.
Chuck enjoyed spending time with his sister, who was his primary caregiver during the last year and half of his life. She selflessly cared for her only brother, often putting her own needs to the side. Prior to becoming ill, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Conner. They refinished a boat together and spent time on the area lakes. His love for music influenced those around him. As a young adult he was in different bands including The Torquays, The Black Rose and The Princeton’s. Charlie was known for his great vocals and talent as a bass guitarist. His joy in crafts shined through in the many beautiful cross stitch pieces he made, as well as the beautiful woodworking projects he created. He enjoyed cooking and was known to whip up a batch of soup now and again. Chuck most treasured the time he spent with friends and family. He will be missed by all who loved him, forever leaving an empty spot in their lives; whether it is at the table for a good meal, on the water catching fish, or just enjoying a good joke and laughing among friends.
The funeral will be Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Cynthia Veilleux from the United Methodist Church in Union City officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 4-8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home.
