Doris J. Folk, 82, of Homer, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center.
Mrs. Folk was born October 30, 1922, in Homer Township to Thurman B. and Goldie June (Snyder) Shaffer. She married Robert D. Folk July 4, 1943, in Decatur. He preceded her in death October 25, 1999,
Mrs. Folk graduated from Homer High School in 1940 and from Reggs Beauty School in 1941. She was employed as a hairdresser in her early years and also was a library aide for Homer Community Schools. She was a lifelong member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Homer. She participated in many local activities and enjoyed collecting teddy bears. Her time spent with her grandchildren was most important.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan J. (Michael J.) Linton of Central Lake; a son, Richard D. (Jan) Folk of Homer; five grandchildren, Brett Linton, James (Renee) Linton, Keri (Brad) Jerome, and Thyra and Deanne Folk; and a brother, Gerald (Rosemary) Shaffer of Homer.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Folk was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Andrews.
Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ben Helmke officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Homer Area Community Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
