FINNIGAN, BARBARA Barbara Annette Finnigan, RN, age 84, of Grand Rapids, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012, at a care facility in Muskegon. She was born December 6, 1927 to Gregory J. and Annette (Lee) Finnigan in Detroit. Barbara graduated from Mercy College of Nursing of Detroit in 1949. She retired after 35 years as head nurse of the Neonatal Unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was a former member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of Grand Rapids and was a member of the Daughter's of St. Bridgett, where she embraced her Irish heritage. She is lovingly remembered by her two nieces, Molly (Chuck) Bibee and Beth Sutton; five nephews, Mike (Karen) Romkema, Jon (Kathy) Romkema, Michael (Annette) Finnigan, Tim (Megan) Finnigan, and Sean (Autumn) Finnigan; one sister, Mary Lee (Jack) Cartwright of High Point, NC; one brother, Deacon Joseph (Mary Ellen) Finnigan of Grand Haven; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Ann Romkema, and a niece, Mary Kathleen Slagter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. William Langlois presiding. Visitation will be from 6-9 PM on Monday, October 15, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 PM on Monday, with Karl Romkema Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions in honor of Barbara may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Sanctuary at the Oaks of Muskegon.
