Doris Vaughan Foret, 92, of Arabi, died Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Edgewater Care Center in Edgewater, Florida. Born in New Orleans to Evi and Lucille Perez Vaughan, Doris lived in Arabi, Louisiana until Hurricane Katrina. Post-Katrina she lived in Katy, Texas and most recently New Smyrna Beach, Florida. The daughter of Evi and Lucille Vaughan, Doris graduated T.J. Semmes High School in 1938 and married Antoine Sweeney Foret the same year. She gave birth to her only child, Bonnie Ann, in 1941. In 1951 wit h her husband and father, she was the owner and operator of The Dairy Special, the first soft ice cream establishment in Arabi, LA. St. Bernard Parish, and later J & M Grill at the same location. Doris was a homemaker who was an excellent cook. She enjoyed sewing, making many outfits for her grandchildren, great-granddaughters, and her granddaughter's Barbie dolls. She enjoyed music and dancing. Her travels included trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and multiple cruises. Among her civic and social activities, Doris was a charter member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, a m ember of the St. Bernard Parish Homemakers Club, a volunteer at the Chalmette Medical Center, a member of the Krewe of Aprhodite for several years, and a member of the St. Bernard Parish Jubilees Social Club (where she was the Social Chairman for several years and a maid in the Annual Mardi Gras Ball). Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Foret Greer of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; 2 grandchildren, Tracy Greer Hook and her husband Thomas Leslie Hook of Destin, Florida, and Gregory Douglas Greer of Sellersburg, Indiana; 2 great granddaughters, Charlotte Lucy Hook and Claire Germaine Hook. Doris was preceded in death by parents, her husband Antoine Sweeney Foret and her half-brother Admiral Casey Vaughan, Sr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 5:00 P.M- 7:00P.M. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 P.M.
