John Wesley "Jack" Castles III

John Wesley Castles, III died peacefully at home with his loving wife Arminda at his side on December 8, 2014. He was the son of John Wesley Castles Jr. and Dorthea Smith Castles. Born in New York City and graduated from Andover, Yale and Columbia University. While attending Yale he was Captain of the wrestling team and played on the 150 lb. football team. He received his diploma from Yale in 1942, walked across the street in New Haven, CT and 15 minutes later was sworn in to the U.S. Navy as an ensign. He was sent to Australia and served as Captain of sub chaser 748. He saw action in New Guinea and then to the Philippines where they engaged the Kamikazes. 
He practiced for over 40 years as an attorney at law at Lord, Day & Lord in New York City. His specialty was in litigation for many major corporations. Aside from his practice, he volunteered much of his time as Director for Recording for The Blind and received special recognition from then President Ronald Reagan.
Surviving include son John W. Castles IV (Eve) from California, Jane Castles Thompson (Ron), from Maryland and Arminda’s two sons, Jeffreys Johnson (Sharron) from Massachusetts, Douglas Johnson (Janice) from Mississippi and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11:00am in the Parish Church of St. Helena with interment in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.
