Thomas Bushby

( - )

8 March 2022 message from Laurie Hillyard
Dear T. Rex,
You told me that our common ancestor is Christopher Bushby (1703.) Family Search shows him married to Margaret Dickinson (1713) on 22 May 1737 in Brough under Stainmore, Westmoreland, England. They had eight children including Thomas, born in 1754, my ancestor. Thomas married Nanny Pratt (1760) on a date and place not known. Thomas and Nanny had eight children, the oldest being my ancestor John Bushby (1775.) John married Mary Simpson (1779) on 5 July 100 in Wawne, Yorkshire, England. They had nine children including my ancestor Thomas Bushby, born in 1811. He married Esther Rich (1811) on 13 January 1833 in Sealcoates, Yorkshire, England. They had ten children, the last of whom was my ancestor, Rebecca Bushby, born in 1849. Rebecca married John Nicholas Frederick Daynes (1831) on 6 June 1870 in Lake City. He was 39 and she was 21. She is the most recent Bushby in my line.
ThruLines showed us as being 5th-8th cousins with a shared DNA of 16 cM across 1 Segment. That would indicate we would be very distantly related. Since I wrote the information above I coresponded with my brother's wife about this. She has worked with a professional geneologist on our family's Bushby line. Below is what she had to say. I'm also including some atttachements.
According to what we have and what Universal Genealogy Center researched, your Thomas Bushby (who is married to Esther and is Rebecca’s father), is the son of John Bushby born 1775 and a grandson of Thomas born 1754. “T-Rex” is thinking of another John Bushby seen on FamilyTree as his grandfather, but I don’t believe he is your ancestor.
All this may not be of much help to you but I hope it can in someway. Good luck with your research.
Laurie

My reply:
Dear Laurie,
Thank you very much for the valuable information that you sent about the Bushby family.
Looking again at my family tree I realize that I must have an error concerning the children of Thomas Bushby 1754 and Nanny Pratt 1760. I have a Richard Bushby christened 23 Aug 1820 and John Bushby christened 20 Oct 1832, both at Hardraw, Yorkshire, England. Their father's name was Thomas Bushby, and the mother was Nanny. However, Nanny Pratt would have been aged 60 in 1820 and 72 in 1832, which means that she must not be the Nanny in the christening records unless they were adult christenings.
FamilySearch Family Tree also shows John Bushby 1775 as a son of Thomas Bushby 1754 and Nanny Pratt 1760, and his wife, Mary Simpson, as you said. This is more likely to be the correct John Bushby. I do not know who his 7 siblings were.
With the correct John Bushby now in the family tree, our link to a common ancestor is now established.
Rex
