Burial
Burial Details Unknown.Born about 1600. Married Hannah ____ before 1643. Died in Swansea MA between 15 May & 25 Jul 1683. Their child: Joseph Chaffee
THOMAS CHAFFE was born c.1610, possibly in Dorsetshire or Devonshire, England. The name of the ship he arrived on and the port he left from is still unknown, but it may have been on a ship named Speedwell, Diligent, John & Dorothy, Rose, or Mayflower and left from a port such as Plymouth, Weymouth, England. There are no records of which part of England Thomas Chaffe/Chaffy was born, but very possibly the southern part of England. Thomas Chaffe arrived in Hingham, Massachusett Bay Colony, on April 22, 1637. Thomas received his first lot of land for planting from the Township of Hingham on July 17, 1637. Thomas lived on Batchellor [Bachelor] Street, the main street through Hingham. Thomas married, possibly a woman named Dorothy/Dorthea Unknown, who very likely was born in England also. Thomas married after arriving to Hingham, or Hull [old name Nantasket], although there are no records in existence of a marriage or who Thomas Chaffe married. Thomas is known to have two sons, Joseph and Nathaniel. Thomas died after the filing of his will July 25, 1680, and before the inventory was announced on May 15, 1683, in Swansea, Massachusetts Bay Colony. It is unknown what happened to his wife. She is not mentioned in his will or any other known documents. It is unknown where THOMAS CHAFFE was buried, possibly in the present area of Barrington, Bristol County, Rhode Island, where his farm was located, which was in Swansea, Massachusetts Bay Colony, at that time period. http://www.chafetree.com/135famous_chaffees1945.html
