Mrs. C.F.Williaims Died Here Monday
Had been resident of this area since 1880
The Madisonian, Virginia City, Montanaa, Friday, August 23rd, 1946
Mrs. Ruth Ellen Williams, widow of the late Charles F. Williams andone of the few remaining early day settlers, passed away at the homeof her daughter, Mrs. L.A. Dudley, Monday afternoon at the age of 78.She had been failing in health for some time.
Mrs. Williams was born at Clintonville, Cedar Co., Missouri, June 24,1868. At the age of 12, she crossed the plains with her parents, thelate Israel and Eve Oswald in a covered wagon. The family settled inVirginia City and after several years. moved to a ranch on GraniteCreek, a few miles from town.
She was married to Charles F. Williams, March 15, 1886 and to thisunion nine children were born, six of whom survive.Two daughters diedin infancy and a son, Charles Ellis, passed away in March, 1919. Mr.Williams died in January, 1941.
Surviving are four daughters and two sons; Lauara Williams Dudley ofVirginia City, Clara Williams Ward of Montreal, Canada, EstellaWilliams Coutts, of Butte, Oscar Williams of Wallace, Idaho. andAdelbert Williams of Burke, Idaho, and Martha Williams Stewart ofEnnis, Montana. During her long residence in this comunity, Mrs.Williams won a large number of warm friends, among who she was greatlybeloved for her kindness and hospitality.
Funeral services were set for Thursday afternoon at 2 pm at the RaperChapel, with Rev. Collins of Twin Bridges officiating. Buriel was inHillside Cemetery here.
