Obituary in the Porterville Evening Recorder April 28, 1944:
" Wm. T. Duncan, Naturalist, Writer, Dies; Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon, at 1:30, at the Webb chapel, in Lindsay, for William Tilden Duncan, 78, a life-long resident of Tulare county, who died yesterday morning at a Tulare hospital, where he had been under treatment since April 3rd. Rev. Charles Barkman, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Lindsay, will officiate. Interment will be in Olive cemetry.
Born west of Porterville, where his parents were early day settlers, Mr. Duncan later lived for many years above Springville, and for the past 30 years or more he had made his home on property he owned at Epperson Flat, in the foothills east of Lindsay.
An acute and interested observer of nature, Duncan was an authority on the bird and animal life of the foothills. From many summers spent in the mountains, he had a wide acquaintance with the plants and trees of the Sierra forests and meadow lands. He took a deep and sympathetic interest in the history of the Indian tribes that were being driven from the hills when he was a boy. His newspaper articles on these and kindred subjects had a wide audience.
Surviving are three brothers, W. L. Duncan of Templeton, San Luis Obispo County; R. H. Duncan of San Luis Obispo; and N. E. Duncan of Ivanhoe, and a number of nieces and nephews." Copy in the possession of the author.
