Illness of four days ended in the death of Walter "Bravo" McDowell, 41, well-known local amateur and semi-pro baseball pitcher and employee of the Piqua Munising Wood Products company, last night near 9:30 o'clock at the Memorial hospital. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage.
McDowell was a foreman at the Munising Wood Products company for the past two years and has been a wood worker the majority of his life, having been employed at the old Cron company and the Cron-Kills prior to the time he began work at the Munising company.
He was well-known to baseball fans as he pitched for local teams, including the Cron Kills team in the Industrial league about ten years ago. He also was an outfielder and was actively interested in the national pastime, though not participating in more recent years.
He was born September 8, 1895, the son of Charles F. and Mary McDowell in this city where he spent his entire life.
Survivors include his widow, Margaret White McDowell, his father, Charles F., of Piqua, and one brother, Ralph, of Dayton.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home 1116 West water street with Rev. Ernst Brown of the United Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be made at Forest Hill cemetery."
