He also had two bounty land warrants. He was a Corporal in the Kentucky Militia and served under Capt. Thos. Metcalf. He was living in Bourbon County at the time and joined in Cynthiana, KY as a substitute for one Hugh Wright. He was honorably discharged at upper Sandusky Ohio on or about the first day of October 1813 and never received a written discharge.
Widow was receiving $8 a month in 1878. Jane resided in Paynesville, Pike Co., MO. Married 2 Aug 1817 in Ohio by Esq. Gilbert, a Justice of the Peace. James died 1 April 1866 at home near Paynesville. James Grimes was one of the witnesses to Jane's affidavit and some other documents. Andrew Forgey was the other witness.

"Barton, Benjamin - Jane H.: WC 23044; BLWt. 35025-80-50; BLWt.29529-80-55. Corporal in Captain Metcalf's Company, Kentucky Militia. Enlisted March 29, 1813; discharged September 22, 1813. Residence of soldier 1851-1855 Pike County, Missouri. Residence of widow 1878-1879 Pike County, Missouri (Post Office: Paynesville). Maiden name of widow Jane H. Mulherrin. Marriage - August 2, 1817 in Ohio. Death of soldier April 1, 1866 Pike County, Missouri. Death of widow about 1886.
Application filed December 5, 1871. Third Auditor reports Benjamin Barton served under Capt. Metcalf from 29 March to 22 September 1813...Length of service: 178 days. Admitted to Pension Rolls April 8,1879 to a pension of eight dollars per month from March 9, 1878. Marriage of Benjamin Barton and Jane H. Mulherrin on August 2, 1817 claimed by widow, and cohabitation for fifty years witnessed by Andrew Forgey and James Grimes. Married by Esq. Gilbert, a Justice of the Peace, in Ohio. Husband died at his home near Paynesville, Missouri, 1 April 1866. Widow not remarried.
U. S. Pension Agency, Topeka, Kansas, reported that Jane H. Barton (Widow 1812) was last paid to 4 September 1886 and had been dropped because of her death.
State of Missouri, County of Pike, 14 February 1851, Benjamin Barton declares that he entered the service in the town of Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky, he then being a resident of Bourbon County, Kentucky, on or about 29 March 1813 for the term of six months; that he entered to serve as a substitute for one Hugh Wright, also then a resident of said County of Bourbon. He was discharged at Upper Sandusky, Ohio, on or about the 1st October 1813."
