"Former Governor's Widow Dies at 86
Berkeley - Mrs. Lyla Jeanette Young, 86, widow of former CaliforniaGov. Clement Calhoun Young, died yesterday at Alta Bates Hospital.
Mrs. Young of 2601 College Ave., was the first lady of the stateduring her husband's term of office as governor from 1926 to 1930.
He lost the Republican primary in 1930 to his successor James Rolph.
Mrs. Young, a native of Alameda who was raised in San Francisco,married Young on March 15, 1902, in San Francisco.
He was a school teacher before embarking on a public service careerthat included 11 years in the state legislature and eight years aslieutenant governor.
Mrs. Young traveled extensively with her husband, prior to his deathin 1947. The couple lived for many years in Berkeley.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. D. W. West of Orinda and Mrs. ThomasGlover of San Marino; three grandchildren and sevengreat-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Clement'sEpiscopal Church, under the direction of Truman's Mortuary." Copy infile.
