Triphena SHERMAN
(Abt 1783 - Abt 1818)
Public tree at ancestry had these notes on this family:
Elvina's father and mother were David and Triphena (Sherman) Smith. One day, when David was felling trees, Triphena carried out a cup of water for him and was caught under a tree that was falling. Elvina was only a baby at the time, and Triphena from that time until her death managed her home for her husband and family of five children from her chair and her bed. She never walked again and died in late 1815 or 1816. David remarried about 1817. Elvina's stepmother was a Mrs. Deborah Tarbox, a widow with four children of her own. Grandmother loved her stepmother and said there never could be a better mother for five motherless children than her own stepmother.David and Deborah had their ready-made family of his five and her four, all about the same ages, and then between Feb 7, 1818 and Aug 22, 1828 they had their family of six children, all born in Alburg, Grand Isle County, Vermont, or a mysterious place called Henchenbrook, Canada. Another not to be found in this Adams line is Jamestown, sometimes called Russelltown, Canada. I feel that these places were really in what is now our United States, but that the boundary line had not as yet been definitely located. I do know that at one time Alburgh, Vermont was named Caldswell Manor, Canada, and that was where David's father, Phineas, a pensioner of the War of the Revolution, died in 1846.

This was written by Mable Adams Evans, a descendant of David and Triphena Smith through their daughter, Elvina Smith who married Kimball Adams.
Various records indicate that Maynard Smith was the son of David Smith and Deborah Tarbox, born in 1818. Triphena's death is recorded as sometime in 1815 or 1816. I strongly believe that Maynard was Triphena's last child. Maynard was the surname of Triphena's mother, Abigail Maynard Sherman. The Maynard name was quite common among David's descendants. Maynard Smith had a son named Maynard and a daughter named Triphena.
