General John Grant Mitchell

General Mitchell volunteered in the Union Army as a private 14 May 1861, appointed 1st Lt., 3d Ohio Infantry, 29 July 1861: Capt. Company C 21 December 1861; Lt. Col., 113th Ohio Inf., 2 Sept. 1863 Colonel Commanding, 2d Brigade 2d Division, 14th Army Corps, 13 May 1864. Brig. Gen 12 Jan 1865, and Brevet Major General for gallantry in Battle of Bentonville and meritorious conduct throughout the war, 13 March 1865. He was the youngest Brigadier General in the Army.
