Samuel Hayes II

"In 1753 he built a large and substantial house at 'Bushy Hill,' two miles west of Salmon Brook, in which he and his descendants lived nearly a century, and which is still in good condition [as of 1884], the residence of Starr Holcombe. He was a prominent citizen, filling many public offices, and much respected ; 'in person rather short, and stout, but not fat, and of great muscular strength, especially in the wrists ; and unrivalled in all athletic feats.' He is called 'Captain' in Simsbury Records . . ." (Hayes, 1884, p. 26).
