Capt. Anthony Austin
(1636 - 27 Aug 1708)
Anthony Austin was one of the first settlers of Suffield, CT. He was at Rowley, MA in 1669 and removed from there about that time to Suffield, with his wife, Esther and three children. He had fifty acres of land granted to him in Feather St. in Suffield, in 1674 and 40 acres of land for each of his sons, Richard and Anthony, in 1679. He held the office of Selectman and Town Clerk in 1681, 1682, 1683, 1686,1687, and 1689, and Commissioner in 1688. He was made freeman of MA in 1669 and was an influential man in church and state.
