Gertie was born in the yellow house in Jennings across the road (county rd z) from Iserman. Later, Percy and Vera lived in this house and even later Violet Katschke and kids lived there. It is currently owned by Elaine and Duane Helgeson.

Gertie was a teacher in Jenning in 1940 for $75 per month. In 1942 she taught at Pelican Lake for $150 per month. In 1955 she taught in Enterprise for $250 per month and did social work (starting $275 in 1956) for the state for 21 years. Retired in 1977.
