David GIBBS
(28 Aug 1845 - 25 Aug 1919)
FATH: Wootten Warren, Warwickshire:James /Gibbs/(See Ref:R3781). DNA test show 4C1R with Robert Savage the 4th great grandson of James Gibbs. This Gibbs is the only one with a son David that is from this area.
The 1871 Canadian Census shows a David GIBBS, age 26 (abt1845) born in England living in Wellington South, Puslinch, Ontario Wellington South, Puslinch, Ontario(See Ref:R2956).
A Phillip Gibbs (b:1833 ENG) and family are living in Guelph, ONT 10 miles north of David. Phillip's religion is Plymouth Brethren(1871) and Church of England(1881) and he is a bank accountant. Considering their different religions and significantly different occupations (farm laborer vs bank account) it is unlikely this David and Phillip are closely related. This David not found in the 1881 Canadian census. This David could be the son of Arthur in NB except that this David is shown as being born in ENG and Arthur's David was born in Canada. On the other hand this could be our David arriving here in 1870 and then going down to the USA.
A David Gibbs (age 5/1846 born in Col(ony)(Canada)) is living in Northumberland, NB in the 1851 census(See Ref:R3735) the son of Arthur and Esther Gibbs. In 1861 he and his family are living in Bathurst, Gloucester, NB(See Ref:R3736). David (age 29/1846) the son of Arthur Gibbs died 29 May 1875 and is buried in the Oak Grove-West Cemetery, Bath, ME(See Ref:R3737). Reckon this is not our David but it could be the David in Ontario in 1871 except that he was born in England (so he said) and this David was born in Canada.
Addie's DC(See Ref:R0144) shows Dave (her father) born in London. Fortyfive years later, Don, Addie's son and DC informant doesn't remember why he told them London.

While the death certificate clearly shows David's birth date as 28 Aug 1848, it also shows that he was 73 yr 11 mo and 24 days old which computes to a birth date of 28 Aug 1845 as shown on his tombstone(See Ref:R0166).Emigration
Naturalized before 1910(See Ref:R0318). Probably after 1 Jun as of 1 Jun 1900 the census shows immigrated 1870, 29 yrs ago. The Naturalization Index for Delta county lists a David GIBBS (See Ref:R2987:pg58 who files his first papers 18 Aug 1891)(See Ref:R2962). Delta county is in Upper Michigan. Nathan Gibbs, David's son, claimed they were from Gladstone, MI which is in Delta county.Emigration

David and Millie purchased from Isaiah M and Mary Jane CONKLIN, his wife, and Nathan B FULLER, the south 30 feet of Lot four of Block fifty-two of the original plat of the village of Gladstone on 10 Apr 1894(See Ref:R3073) and sold same to Iden G Champion on 31 May 1898(See Ref:R3074).Residence
David bought the south half of the south west quarter of sect 34 township 37 on 31 May 1898 from Iden G Champion (possible exchange for home in Gladstone) and conveyed title to son david 26 Jul 1918.Occupation
