Jacob Holm

(9 Oct 1822 - 9 Apr 1908)

From letters written by Ralph Holm: Jacob became a very prosperous farmer, was a very religious man and payed [sic] the entire cost of building a church which still stands and has services (the first one I ever entered in my mothers arms and probably was bawling too).

There was an old man down in the Pike used to tell me stories that were handed down. My Grandpa Jacob retired from the farm & we lived on it 9 years. He built a home on 100 acres near Canton 6 miles from the farm. He was a solem[sic] sober serious man & a perfectionist. He used to drive horse & wagon to the farm nearly every day and go around the farm with a sythe[sic] & mow all the weeds along the fences. He worked his ten acres & had everything just so. He worked until he couldn't hardly walk anymore. He was well fixed financially & didn't have to but believed no one should waste any of their time if they could find something constructive to do.
