Individual Details
Dr. William Clary Steele
(25 Nov 1851 - 6 Aug 1920)
In the early 1880s, Doctor Steele started administering kindness and pills. His home was on South Main Street south of St. Paul's Church. His first office was above the grocery store at Portage and Maple. later it was across the street in an old brick house which Michael Bitzer built to replace his original home that was destroyed by fire.
For over 30 years Dr. Steele made house calls all around the countryside and in the village, was well as seeing patients in his office and being ever ready to run to the Hoover factory should he be needed. Doc Steele had always said he wanted to die with his boots on - and so he did.
