Born Johann Conrad Woelflin in Besigheim Germany. Besigheim is a small town north of Stuttgart. He sailed to America in 1750 aboard "the Patience". When arriving the spelling of his surname was changed to Wolfley and he settled in Middletown, PA. His Family lived in a house at 429 N Union Street that is now on the National Register of Historic Places. He was an Overseer of the poor at St. Peter's Church in 1773.
