Robert Powell was born in Wales March 3, 1786. He and wife Ann, were married in Wales. They had their 2 children Baptized at the Troedrhiewdalar church by Rev. David Williams. (Rees Powell Jr. of this church came to Radnor TWP. and established a church by the same name in 1839 but it is unknown if he was related). Robert and Anne emigrated to Radnor Township Ohio in 1845 bringing the 2 children John and Margaretta. They erected a home and dry goods business on the NE corner of Radnor road and Route 203 just after migration. The business was called Powell and Son store. Ann died about 3 years (1848) after emigrating but Robert lived until August 23 1872. The store continued operation under his son John, then Evan I. Jones.. The store and house burned in 1928 when a fire started in the kitchen area.
