Thomas Morton Jr erected and opened his 11 room home and store in 1853. He operated the store until his sudden death in 1857. He died insolvent as he had just purchased a large inventory of goods for the store. Thomas was unmarried and left his estate to two sisters who had to sell most of the estate to cover his debts. The house and store was sold and continued to be a store with varying degrees of success over the years. The house and store were turned into apartments in the late 1970's.
