John Hughes Griffith was a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Delaware. He was born in Radnorshire, England (Wales), in 1823 and learned his trade as a Marble Cutter in Wales. About 1859 emigrated to America, coming directly to Delaware. (His first wife Ann Davis died just before his immigration and he brought his young son Thomas H). He commenced the Marble business in Delaware. He was recognized as one of the finest designers and workman of marble in Ohio. On Feb 23 1860 He and Janett nee Herbert Jones were married.
