George Pugh

George Pugh came from Wales to America in 1837 as a Blacksmith. He married Jane Thomas of Radnor on Nov 14 1842 . He worked in Radnor until May 1 1850 at which time he and a group from Radnor left for California on the Gold rush. Some of the others in the group were John Coonfare, Henry Thomas, and Lemuel Herbert. George did not find gold but started a blacksmith shop working on tools for the miners and was paid in gold. In August of 1851 his wife died in Radnor and the 3 children were taken in by relatives until George could get home to take care of them. When reaching home he went into partnership with John J Davis in a shop that was near where Willis School now stands in Delaware.
March 1 1857 he married a second time to Ellen Williams Jones. One child was born to them John Ellis Pugh (1861-1920). Ellen was the widow of Thomas Jones (who died in 1856) with one child Mary Ann Jones. Mary Ann married David Williams
In 1868 he moved back to his farm just west of Radnor and kept a shop there until he died Feb 2 1891.
