Elijah Adams Sr.

(2 Jan 1779 - 2 May 1873)

Elijah was born in NJ in 1779, came to Radnor Twp in 1811, with his wife (Nancy Carey) and 3 children (Mercy Ann, Simeon and Julia Ann). He purchased 200 acres in township 6 (section 2 ,Lots 1 and 2) of the US Military district. (David Pugh had purchased all of section 4 (4000 acres) of this same township). Between 1811 and 1826, 8 more children were born (Benjamin C , Abraham, Susannah, Elijah jr, Margaret, John, Hosea and James) . Nancy died in 1834 and was buried in The Radnor Cemetery. After Nancy's death Elijah remarried to Mary Landon (nee Pettibone, could be Peddicord), widow of Darius Landon and they had one child.
Elijah served in the war of 1812 as a private under Capt. John Foos and served as Justice of the Peace for 30 years. He also taught school for several winters.
Elijah died May 2 1873 at the age of 94 and was buried in the Radnor Cemetery. His 2nd Wife Mary died in 1869.
In the 1850 (age 70) Agriculture Census he owned 38 acres, 4 horses, 5 cattle, 25 sheep and 14 hogs.
