Lee enlisted in Company E, 66th OVI on Oct 30 1861 in Delaware Co. Ohio. He was reported missing in action Jun 4 1862 in Va. He was captured by the Confederacy and exchanged at Aiken's Landing on Sept 13 1862. He reported to Camp Parole Maryland and officially paroled, allowing him to return to duty on Sep 26 1862 in Wash DC. He mustered out of service Dec 22 1864 after his 3 year term of service.
