Edward Evans

(1787 - 26 Jul 1837)

Edward Evans came to Radnor before 1820 (shown in 1820 tax) He purchased land from Thomas Davids estate,. The land was Tier 3, lot 5 of the Pugh survey that wrapped around the NW corner of New Baltimore plat. In 1833 Edward Evans turned proprietor and hired James Eaton to survey lots to add to the defunct New Baltimore village. Evans changed the name of the Village to Delhi. Edward sold a few lots but died in 1837 without a will. It took several years before the estate was settled. Wm Watkins bought most of it in 1848. The period from 1833 to 1870 was one of real growth of the village as it responded to the very productive farms in the area. Many of the current buildings were erected in this period. The Delhi name was accepted by local residents and only became outdated when the railroad came through and became the method of delivery for Postal Service. The Postal Service required a unique name for each mail drop and already had a "Delhi" in South West Ohio. The local residents reluctantly changed to Radnor in order to receive mail service.
