Johann Sebastian Shoup
(20 Feb 1740 - 11 Jan 1793)
Sebastian Shoup a German (Swiss) was one of the very first settlers of (Liberty TWP) Bedford Co. PA He Located where Saxon is now, prior to the Revolution.
During the period of Indian hostilities he built a fort blockhouse very near the spot where the railroad depot now stands. To this shelter the neighboring families resorted until the depredations became so violent that they felt compelled to seek a more secure fortification. The Shoups (and their neighbors) accordingly left and did not return until the war had closed. Shoup erected a gristmill very early. His children were:: Joseph, Henry Abraham, Mary, Susan, Catherine, and ? (Mrs Swartz). Numerous posterity descendants.
