Hemade s o me newimprovemnets in logging machilery or tools and took workfor himselfandhis older son s d uri ng some seasons. He made tools withhis ownforge.Marcelous was a Pvt., County I, Thomas ' Reg ime nt, 28thLouisianaInfantry inthe Civil War. He enrolled April 15, 1862 in NewOrleans . He wa s on theFederalRolls of Prisoners of War, captured andparolled inVicksburg,Mississpp i o n Ju ly 4, 1863. On October 11, 1864,he was senton a specialmission to the Parish of Calc ase iu " point out toEnrollingOfficer theabsentees and deserters of this command". He remaine dw it hhis companyuntil the regiment was disbanded in 1865. Marcelouspurchasedland inTowns h i p 9 South, Range 12 West, sections 27 and 28, in1879 and1890.Emaline was the first in h e r a rea to have a sewingmachine. She wasaschoolteacher and taught all the children on the p l antation thethreeR's. This included the slave children.
