PRATER, Mahala (Adams)
1882-1954
Local Resident, Mahala Prater Dies Sept. 28
Mrs. Mahala Prater, 72, died in a local hospital Tuesday, September 28, following a long illness. Her death was attributed to a stroke. Born July 24, 1882 in Magoffin county, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Crace Adams. She had been a resident of Paintsville for the past 43 years. Mrs. Prater was also a member of the Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Wilbur Prater. She is survived by two sons, Paul Prater, city and Ernest Prater, Springfield,O. Also surviving are four brothers, John T. Adams, William Adams, Ben Whitt, Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Walter Whitt, Williamson, W. Va. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Claude Preston, Homer Willis and W. F. Pettus officiating. Burial was made in the Gardner cemetery to Salyersville under the direction of the Jones and Preston Funeral Home.
