On 3 July 1943 he entered the United States Navy ay Chattanooga, Tennessee, and trained at Great Lakes, Illinois. A Seaman First Class, he served in California and in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged from the Navy on 2 December 1945; he then served in the Army Air Force from 2 October 1946 to 21 October 1948, and received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan).Marriage
