Military

He served in the Air Force during WW II attached to the 379th Bombardment Group, First Division, and continued to serve until he retired in 1961. He earned many awards while in the Air Force. He was a top turret gunner and later a flight engineer. The following were his decorations: Distinguished Flying Cross; Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, European Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars; National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal with rope; Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon; American Campaign Medal; WW II Victory Medal. He was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1947 when Grady Jr. was born. During the last years of his service with SAC, he was stationed in North Africa.
