William Pynchon

RESIDENCE: Was the Squire of Springfield, Essex, England. Came to New England with wife and children on the "Arbella" in Wintrop fleet March 1630. First went to Dorchester, Massachusetts. One of the founders of the church and town of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Founded Agawam Plantation, later renamed Springfield, Massachusetts for Pynchon's hometown in England. 28 September 1651 deeded property to son John and sons-in-law. Returned to England September, 1652. 1653 purchased an estate near Wraysbury, Buckinghamshire, England about three miles from Windsor, directly opposite Magna Charta Island in the Thames and the field of Runnymeade.

PUBLIC SERVICE: Assistant Treasurer, Massachusetts Bay Colony 1630-1636. Treasurer of Massachusetts colony 1632-34. Names to govern new settlement of Connecticut 3 March, 1636. Member of Massachusetts board of Assistants 1642-51.

OCCUPATION: Fur trading business in Dorchester and Roxbury, Massachusetts.

PUBLISHED: The Meritorious Price of Our Redemption, London, 1650.

EDUCATION: Oxford, Hart Hall, and Hertford College.
