REV. BOND'S DEATH WIDELY MOURNED

Not in the history of the Lovejoy M.E. Church has there occurred a death that cast over not only the members and congregation, but upon the entire surrounding community, so deep, so genuine a sorrow as has that of the pastor, Rev. George Addy Bond, who died Monday, April 12, after a short illness.

He came to Lovejoy scarcely six months ago -- a stranger -- unused to the peculiar conditions resulting unavoidably from the fluctuating business of its membership, but in an incredibly short time, he had familiarized himself with all the details of the vast territory over which he had been called to preside. And not only did he have at heart the practical interests of the church, but he seemed to innoculate everyone with whom he came in contact with a desire for winning souls.

Rev. Mr. Bond was born in England in 1857 and became a minister in 1877. In 1884 he was received into the Northwest Indiana Conference, and two years later he went as missionary to the Singapore Straits Settlement. On account of ill health, he returned to this country and was admitted into the Genesee Conference, having charges at carious times at Darien, East Aurora, N.Y.; Duke Center, Pa.; Fairport, Wayland, Bolivar and Angelica, N.Y.

The attendance at the funeral was very large. Many people from previous out-of-town churches who loved Mr. Bond dearly were present. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the family residence , No. 994 Lovejoy Street. Rev. I.W. Crocker of Angelica, N.Y., pastor of the church Mr. Bond left to come to Lovejoy, gave an impressive prayer at the house, and from there to the church where the Rev. F.H. Coman, district superintendent of the Genesee Conference, and former pastor of Lovejoy, was in charge.

Dr. C.W. Winchester of Kenmore, N.Y. gave the first prayer. Rev. Peter Thompson of Summer Place M.E. Church; Rev. S.A. Morse, conference secretary, permanent fund; Mr. Andrew Graham and Dr. Horace A. Crane, district superintendent, Olean district, gave heartfelt loving tributes to Mr. Bond as a man, a minister, and a Christian. Rev. C.C. Roselle, pastor of Linwood M.E. Church read a letter of sympathy from the Buffalo Methodist Ministers' Association.

One very impressive part of the service was when the ministers present gathered around the casket and sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" (the last words Rev.) Bond uttered. ..., Ashbury M.E. ...
