Joshua Newcomer
(11 Apr 1809 - 4 Dec 1887)
Joshua and Isaac Newcomer were twins. Joshua Newcomer was a farmer in 1861, and his home and barn became a field hospital under the control of the Union Fifth Corps during the Antietam Civil War battle in September of 1862.
Joshua Newcomer bought his home and mill from Christopoher Orndorff. Both the original home and the original mill are gone. The mill stood from 1782 to 1904, while the home which was built in the late 1700s. A newer home, built before 1861, still stands. It is this building that is pictured.
Around 2010, Joshua's property was bought by the National Park Service and is an exhibit now under the name Newcomer Farm House.
