Richard Johnson was a gunsmith at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia (then, Virginia) for the United States Army. He survived John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry. After the desruction of the armory, Richard turned to teaching and, later, farming. He also served as a county commissioner. He was an Episcopalian.
