Samuel Snively practiced medicine in Williamsport, Maryland. He served with Company B, Second Pennsylvania Volunteers and with Independent Battery B in Kentucky and Tennesse. He attained the rank of Sergeant. After the war Samuel studied medicine with his brother, Isaac Snively, and graduated from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1869. He was a Presbyterian.
